Description

Off-Center 1901/0-S Half Eagle AU55

1901/0-S $5 Half Eagle--Struck 10% Off Center--AU55 PCGS. One of the most dramatic errors in the Henderson Collection. Gold coinage was rigorously inspected and this piece should have been detected prior to its release from the Mint. Struck noticeably off center toward 12 o'clock, there is a wide band of unstruck flan beneath the date and another band above the eagle on the reverse. This piece is actually a double mint error, since the 0 underdigit is plain from the upper right portion of the second 1 in the date. The orange-gold surfaces show substantial luster, and this coin is surprisingly free from marks aside from some wispy hairlines from light handling.
