Partial Collar Strike, Railroad Rim
on a Semikey 1903-S Morgan Dollar
1903-S $1 Morgan Dollar -- Partial Collar Strike, Railroad Rim
-- AU55 PCGS. This much better date Morgan dollar is also a
significant mint error. The edge is about equally divided between
plain and reeded, with the reeding near the reverse side. This
suggests the reverse was the hammer die and the collar die was
level but positioned partly beneath the reverse die. A broad knife
rim is present on the left obverse and right reverse. The satiny
almond-gold and pearl-gray surfaces are lightly hairlined.
