Description

Fascinating Laminations and Strike-Thrus on a 1904 Double Eagle

1904 $20 Double Eagle--Obverse & Reverse Lamination with Obverse Struck Thru Thread--MS63 NGC. Two lengthy, curly threads are struck into the obverse northwest of the date and near 9 o'clock. Full retained laminations accompany the strike-thrus. Curiously, the reverse also has a pair of sizeable retained laminations close to 9 and 12 o'clock, nearly opposite the obverse laminations. An unusual and spectacular combination of mint errors on a large denomination gold coin. A lustrous lemon-gold piece that has a good strike and carefully preserved surfaces.
