    Description

Widely Off Center 1918 Buffalo Nickel

1918 Buffalo Nickel--Struck 25% Off Center--AU53 PCGS. Off center toward 10 o'clock on the obverse. The surfaces are the usual nickel gray color with some brownish tinges intermixed. There are some handling marks in the blank planchet area below the date, and a small nick near the Chief's chin and a minor but strategically located patch of green verdigris on his nose. A thick die crack extends from the rim through the lower right side of the 8 in the date just past the knot holding the Chief's braid. The mint mark, if any, is not present with the off center strike, but if a coin with a matching die crack was found, it could be determined which of the three mints struck this piece.
