Intriguing and Rare 1921-D Morgan Dollar Error

1921-D $1 Dollar--Tilted Partial Collar and Broadstruck--AU 55 PCGS. This is an interesting and fascinating coin that stumped this cataloger for quite some time. It appears that only the lower left side of the planchet was resting against the collar at the time that this coin as struck. As a result, the left reverse displays fully formed denticles. The left obverse, however, was struck out of collar, and the denticles did not fully strike up. The right borders of both sides are distended, suggesting that the collar was also missing from that side of the planchet. The balance of the features are well defined for the issue with a light dusting of olive-gray and champagne iridescence. As confident as we are with this assessment, we welcome any other ideas that might explain how this error occurred.
