Description

Broadstruck 1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter Error

1924-S 25C Quarter--Broadstruck--XF 45 NGC. This minimally worn example is sharply impressed over the centers for both an S-mint issue and a mint error. The peripheries are, however, a different matter entirely. The upper obverse, as well as the corresponding area on the reverse, displays a lip of flan that resulted when this coin was struck without a collar. Liberty's head is noticeably flat, several of the peripheral devices are drawn toward the edge, and the date is only partially defined. All of these features are the result of the striking error. The surfaces are bright, essentially untoned, and remarkably lustrous for the grade.
