Description

1942 5C Type One Nickel--Split After Strike--AU50 ANACS. Deep lilac and yellow-green patina. While the obverse has a typical appearance for a lightly circulated coin, the reverse has a spectacular planchet flaw. The coin has split roughly across the center of the edge, with only a sliver of the original reverse intact near 3 o'clock. Probably a Type One example, as no outline of the mintmark is visible on what is left of the reverse surface.
