1943 Lincoln Cent, AU50
Struck on a Silver Dime Planchet

1943 1C Lincoln Cent -- Struck on a Silver Dime Planchet -- AU50 PCGS Secure. Ex: Simpson. Most cents struck on dime planchets are highly conspicuous, since the color differs from the usual red to brown. But the 1943-dated cents were struck on zinc-plated steel planchets, and thus are similar in color to untoned silver dimes. The present wrong planchet error looks like a typical 1943 cent upon first glance, but it was in circulation only briefly before a sharp-eyed finder set it aside. The silver-gray surfaces are lightly marked and display minor high point wear. As expected of the slightly undersized flan, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the L in LIBERTY are very tight against the rims. Few collectors can afford a bronze 1943 cent, but this different wrong planchet error is affordable.
