Description
Off-Metal 1943-S Cent, on a
Peru 5 Centavos Planchet, XF Details
1943-S 1C Lincoln Cent -- Struck on a Peru 5 Centavo Planchet --
Damaged -- NCS. XF Details. 3.0 gm. The 1943-S Peru five
centavo (KM-213.2a.2) is brass and has a mintage of 4 million
pieces. A five centavo planchet was inadvertently diverted to
Lincoln cent dies, creating one of the few 1943-S cents struck in
an alloy other than zinc-plated steel. Certainly more affordable
than a bronze '43-S cent, though also very rare. This lightly
circulated yellow-gold cent is bright from cleaning and has a
subtle test mark beneath the B in LIBERTY. A small post-mint clip
at 2:30 was made by a "Doubting Thomas." Aligned with the collar
near 6 o'clock. IN GOD WE TRUST is partial. The date is bold and
the mintmark is faint. From The Geyer Family Collection.
