Description
1943-S Cent, Near-Mint
on a Silver Dime Planchet
1943-S 1C Lincoln Cent -- Struck on a Silver Dime Planchet --
AU58 PCGS Secure. Ex: Simpson. A 1943-S cent on a bronze
planchet is a famous rarity, but the same issue on a different
off-metal planchet, intended for a steel dime, is collectible.
Since the zinc-plated steel alloy resembles a silver dime, the
present piece could have circulated indefinitely. Instead, it was
identified and saved promptly, and displays vibrant cartwheel
luster on both sides. No marks are consequential across the lightly
toned wheat-gold and silver-white surfaces. The strike is soft on
Lincoln's forehead and shoulder, the O in ONE, and the obverse
peripheral legends.Selections from The Bob R. Simpson Collection.
