Description

1943-S Lincoln Cent, VF35
On a Silver Dime Planchet

1943-S 1C Lincoln Cent -- Struck on a Silver Dime Planchet -- VF35 PCGS. Ex: Fred Weinberg Collection. 1943 was the year that cents were struck in zinc-plated steel. The alloy was similar to silver in color, which allowed the present silver cent to circulate longer than is usual for an off-metal mint error. The coin was struck aligned with the collar die at 1:30, thus the rim is prominent on the upper right obverse and lower right reverse, and absent elsewhere. Most of E PLURIBUS is off the flan, though a majority of UNUM is present. Light autumn-brown toning accompanies protected areas.
