Description

1945-S Nickel on 3.3-Gram Silver Planchet
Enigmatic Error, AU58

1945-S Jefferson Nickel -- Struck on a Silver Planchet -- AU58 PCGS. 3.3 gm. The weight of the silver planchet does not appear to correspond with any world coins struck at the San Francisco Mint in either 1944 or 1945, although it is possibly an obsolete blank from some earlier coinage. It appears to be a well made planchet rather than a fragment from a planchet. Both sides are brilliant and lustrous with a trace of wear limited to the highest design points.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2007), lot 2724.
