    Description

    1963-D Half Dollar, MS65
    Struck Off Center on a
    Silver Quarter Planchet
    Partial Brockage Reverse

1963-D 50C Franklin Half -- Off Center on a Silver Quarter Planchet, Reverse Brockage -- MS65 NGC. 6.24 gm, virtually the statutory weight of a silver quarter. An intriguing double mint error. A half dollar (not the present piece) was struck normally but failed to fully eject. It covered a majority of the reverse die when the present piece was fed in between the obverse die and the off-center coin. The strike indented most of the reverse of the present coin with the obverse of the previously struck coin. The date is bold, and, fortuitously, the mintmark is part of the portion struck by the reverse die. LIBERTY and the denomination are absent. The Franklin portrait is complete. Lustrous and unabraded with light golden patina over pearl-gray surfaces.
