Uniface Obverse, Reverse Die Cap
1964 Kennedy Half, MS63
1964 50C Kennedy Half Dollar -- Reverse Die Cap, Uniface Obverse
-- MS63 PCGS. Type Two Reverse. This half dollar likely had a
normal first strike, but failed to eject from the dies. A second
half dollar flan, not included, was then fed in between the obverse
die and the present coin. The next strike forced the present coin
to partly wrap around the reverse die, and largely effaced the
obverse impression from the first strike. The absence of a mintmark
by the branch stem, combined with the 90% silver alloy, indicates
the issue is a 1964. Short scratches on the nearly featureless
obverse flatten the opposite area beneath the eagle's left (facing)
wingtip.
