1965 10C Roosevelt Dime -- Transitional, Struck on a 90% Silver Planchet -- AU58 NGC. 2.5 gm. In 1965, the U.S. Mint struck 90% silver dimes dated 1964, and clad dimes dated 1965. Our online auction archives do not show any appearances of clad 1964 dimes, but we have auctioned a few silver 1965 dimes, most recently an AU55 ANACS example for $4,025 as lot 6522 in our January 2011 FUN Signature. The rare off-metal error is reportedly caused by planchets lodged in bin or hopper crevices, and later freed by a subsequent wave of planchets. This near-Mint dime has hints of almond-gold toning, and has a single intermittent linear mark on the upper reverse.
