Description
1965 Cent Struck On A Silver Dime Planchet
1965 1C Lincoln Cent--Struck on a Silver Dime Planchet--MS64 PCGS. 1965 Cents struck on Clad Dime planchets are scarce but nonetheless collectible. However, 1965 Cents on Silver Dime planchets are very rare, and a search of Heritage auction records did not reveal a prior appearance of this particular combination. Silver Dimes were struck for portions of 1965, on dies dated 1964. Due to a date freeze, the Cent dies likely carried 1964 dates as well during most if not all of the production of Silver Dimes. However, this stray planchet was perhaps lodged in a cart until 1965 dated production began. A satiny piece with olive and slate-gray color. Well preserved, the strike is blunt on the highpoints, as expected from the undersized planchet, and portions of the motto are off the flan.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22G9, PCGS# 2896, Greysheet# 2205)
