Description

1968-S Nickel, PR63 Red and Brown
Struck on a 1968-S Cent

1968-S 5C Jefferson Nickel -- Overstruck on a 1968-S Cent, Double Denomination -- PR63 Red and Brown NGC. A proof six-cent piece. The cent undertype is evident on both sides. Most of LIBERTY from the cent strike is readable near Jefferson's nose. The cent date is on his shoulder. On the reverse, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT from the cent strike are mostly apparent. The Lincoln Memorial appears in ghostly form, tilted left relative to Monticello. WE TRUST and UNITED STATES from the nickel strike have a stretched appearance where unimpeded by a collar die. The nickel planchet was fed aligned with the collar die at 4:30, and a full rim is present between 3 and 7 o'clock. Predominantly orange-red with hints of violet and powder-blue.
