Description

Double Struck 1971-D Cent on Dime Planchet

1971-D 1C Lincoln Cent--Double Struck on 10C Planchet, 95% Off Center--MS62 PCGS. An unusual combination of errors. Struck on a planchet intended for a clad dime, this cent is softly struck on the portrait and the center of the Memorial. E PLURIBUS UNUM is also weak because of the undersized planchet, and the peripheral legends show minor distortion characteristic of a broadstrike. The cent failed to eject from the dies, and was struck a second time 95% off center toward 1 o'clock, centered at 12 o'clock relative to the first strike. The lowest left portion of Lincoln's shoulder is present on the second strike. The second strike causes a 5% indent on the lower reverse, from a newly fed planchet.
