Description

1971-D Half Struck on a 40% Silver Planchet

1971-D 50C Half Dollar--Struck on 40% Silver Planchet--AU55 PCGS. Kennedy Half Dollars were 40% silver between 1965 and 1970, including the 1970-D which was struck only for mint sets. An unstruck planchet from that production was somehow mixed in with the usual copper-nickel clad planchets during the subsequent year. The peripheries of this example are softly struck, as are the centers of the devices, and there are a few faint handling marks from brief circulation. Lightly toned and with ample remaining luster.
