1972 Washington Quarter, MS61
Struck Over a 1964 Silver Quarter
1972 25C Washington Quarter -- Overstruck on a 1964 Quarter --
MS61 NGC. Most numismatists believe that no silver quarters
were struck during 1972, but here is one, overstruck on a 1964
quarter. The second strike is rotated about 5% counter-clockwise
relative to the first strike. The 1964 date from the first strike
is easily readable near the 1972 date. One wonders if this coin was
struck with a medal press, given the close placement to its prior
