1972-D Nickel, Mint State Details
Flipover Double Struck
1972-D 5C Jefferson Nickel -- Double Struck, Flipover In collar,
Obverse & Reverse Wheel Mark -- NGC Details. Unc. The first
strike was normal. Instead of getting ejected from the die chamber,
the coin flipped over and was struck a second time. Another
possibility is that after the first strike, the coin found its way
between Jefferson nickel dies again, later the same year. The
mintmark and date from the second strike are bold. The date and
mintmark from the first strike are apparent near STATES from the
