1973-S Quarter, PR68 Red and Brown
Double Struck on a Cent Planchet

1973-S 25C Washington Quarter -- Double Struck on a Cent Planchet -- PR68 Red and Brown NGC. 3.13 gm. One of the most strikingly toned errors of the sale, with electric blue, violet, and orange shadings that mingle on each side. The high pressure used on proof coinage has caused this beautifully preserved planchet to spread to cover nearly the entire quarter-sized surfaces, though a small void remains at the lower right obverse and corresponding area of the reverse.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2008), lot 2575.

The pre-sale publicity was more than I imagined, and the actual catalog better than I had expected - and my expectations were high!
