    Description

Double Struck, Double Brockage 1976-D Half

1976-D 50C Bicentennial Half--Double Struck, Double Brockage--MS64 PCGS. A half dollar (not the present piece) stuck to the reverse die after it was struck. A planchet was then fed in (to become this coin), and was very softly struck approximately 20% off center toward 8 o'clock. It failed to eject, and was struck again, 50% off center toward 1 o'clock. The second strike was much sharper than the first strike. The reverse was broadstruck off center for both strikes, and the second broadstrike plainly shows the 1776-1976 date, mintmark, and IN GOD WE TRUST in incused and reversed form.
