Double Struck 1976-D Half Dollar, MS67
Both Strikes Off Center with Reverse Brockage

1976-D 50C Clad Bicentennial Half -- Double Struck, Both Off Center, Reverse Brockage -- MS67 NGC. The story of this spectacular error begins when a coin (not the present lot) stuck to the reverse die after it was struck. Two non-overlapping planchets, one of which became the present lot, were then fed between the obverse die and the previously struck coin. The present lot was struck approximately 50% off center toward 12 o'clock. The strike left an incused and reversed impression of the obverse on the reverse. The reverse also shows a second curved impression from the first strike, from the outline of second fed planchet (not included). The present coin failed to eject and was struck a second time, perhaps 30% off center toward 2:30. Again, on the second strike, the reverse die was blocked by the reverse die cap, leaving a second brockage impression.
