Description

1976-S 50C Bicentennial Half Dollar -- Struck on a Five Cent Planchet -- MS64 PCGS. An impressive wrong-planchet error on the short-lived Bicentennial type. The strike was flush with the collar die at 6 o'clock, which allows full legends on the lower obverse and upper reverse. Independence Hall is intact, but the top of Kennedy is off the flan. Only extreme traces of LIBERTY are present. Appropriately, HALF DOLLAR is absent. Both dates and the mintmark are crisp and complete. The smooth surfaces exhibit delicate straw-gold and ice-blue patina.
