    Description

    1977-D Multistruck Nickel, MS68

1977-D 5C Jefferson Nickel -- Multiple Struck -- MS68 NGC. The first strike of this Jefferson nickel was a brockage, struck between the obverse die and the obverse of a previously struck nickel. That strike caused the obverse to adhere to the obverse die, and it became an obverse die cap, striking one or more newly fed planchets. Finally, the die cap (this coin) dislodged, but was struck one additional time, off center toward 4:30, at 9 o'clock relative to the earlier strikes. This final strike was uniface, like all of those before it except for the initial brockage strike. Lustrous and richly toned sea-green.
