Description

1977-S Nickel, PR68 Ultra Cameo
Struck Over a 1977-S Dime

1977-S 5C Jefferson Nickel -- Struck Over a 1977-S Dime -- PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. A double denomination combination seldom seen on a modern proof. Roosevelt faces south relative to Monticello, with the dime date and mintmark faintly apparent on the upper reverse field of the nickel. Portions of the olive branch from the dime are evident within Jefferson's hair. The strike favors the left borders, though the bottom portions of LIBERTY and the date are present. The tails of the 9 and 7s confirm the nickel date. The frosty motifs exhibit exemplary contrast with the glassy fields, disturbed only by a shallow strike-through on the field near Jefferson's chin.
