Fascinating Mated Error Pair
Counterbrockage, Double Struck
1979 Half Dollar, MS64
1979 50C Kennedy Half Mated Error Pair MS64 PCGS. Coin #1 is
designated by PCGS as Double Struck, Double Counterbrockage. Coin
#2 is designated by PCGS as Double Struck, Double Brockage Obverse.
However, we believe Coin #1 is triple struck and a counterbrockage,
while Coin #2 is a double struck brockage of a counterbrockage. The
first strike for coin #1 was between the obverse die and a brockage
of the obverse design (that brockage coin is not included in the
lot). The second strike for coin #1 was between the obverse die and
coin #2, which was fed between coin #1 and the reverse die. The two
coins were struck again, this time with coin #1 approximately 50%
off center toward 2:30.
