Description

Gem 1979 Nickel Struck on a 1978 Cent

1979 5C Jefferson Nickel--Struck on 1978 Cent--MS65 Red and Brown NGC. A lustrous and well preserved example with bright orange and rose color. The 1978 date from the undertype Cent is visible on the upper back portion of Jefferson's head, and Daniel Chester French's statue of Lincoln is sharply defined within Monticello. An undoubtedly very rare combination of dates; apparently a struck 1978 Cent became wedged in a bin and was freed some time later when accompanied by Nickel planchets. (#4102)
