1985 Cent, MS68 Red
Two Planchet Bonded Pair
1985 1C Cent -- Two Planchet Bonded Pair -- MS68 Red NGC.
5.0 gm. Upon first glance, this mint error appears to be a reverse
die cap, and an impressive one with a steep thimble-like rim. Close
inspection shows a double rim, one inside the other. There are two
cents in the holder: an obverse die cap housed inside a reverse die
cap, with the reverse of the obverse cap fused (from the strike) to
the obverse of the reverse cap. Both the exterior obverse and
reverse designs are well struck, and the margins exhibit zinc
residue forced out from the interior of the coin by the strike.
