Description

1986 $1 Silver Eagle--Struck Through Sand Disk--MS64 PCGS. An emery disc is thin, round, granular, and adhesive-backed. It is typically affixed to a buffing wheel, and was presumably used at the Mint to help prepare dies. Somehow, an emery disc with an unpeeled backing covered a silver eagle planchet at the moment of strike. The outcome is a first-year 1986 silver eagle with a normal reverse and a 100% struck-through obverse. The obverse has a rough matte appearance, as made.
