Mated Pair Obverse and Reverse Die Cap
1997 Lincoln Cents, MS67 Red and MS68 Red
1997 1C Lincoln Cent--Obverse Die Cap, Matched Pair 1 of 2--MS68
Red NGC; and a 1997 Lincoln Cent--Reverse Die Cap, Matched
Pair 2 of 2--MS67 Red NGC. This remarkable error combination
began when coin #2 stuck to the reverse die. It was then struck
repeatedly against a series of newly fed planchets, which caused
the obverse portrait of Lincoln to become blurry, low relief, and
expanded. The final strike was against coin #1, which became an
obverse die cap. Coin #1 has a brockage impression from coin #2.
