Reverse Die Cap 1997 Cent MS66 Red
1997 1C Lincoln Cent--Reverse Die Cap--MS66 Red NGC. This cent clung to the reverse die after its initial normal strike. It was then repeatedly struck between the reverse die and a series of newly fed planchets (none of which are included). The obverse design expanded and distorted from the multiple strikes against planchets, while the piece thinned and began to wrap around the reverse die. The dramatic cap is too high to fit in an NGC holder, but NGC has supplied a photo certificate, which incorrectly lists the date as 1999.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22JW, PCGS# 3145, Greysheet# 2311)
