Description

1999 Lincoln Cent, MS64 Red
Deep Obverse Die Cap

1999 1C Lincoln Cent -- Deep Obverse Die Cap -- MS64 Red PCGS. A Lincoln cent (not the present lot) remained in the die chamber following its initial strike. A planchet (to become the present lot) was then fed into the die chamber, between the obverse die and the obverse of the previously struck coin. The strike forced the border of the present piece to wrap around the obverse die. The coin was struck additional times, with planchets fed between strikes, between the present piece and the reverse die. The reverse still shows a faint reversed and incused image of Lincoln, acquired during the first strike and flattened with subsequent strikes. The zinc interior has evident throughout the reverse, and across the obverse margins associated with later strikes.
