Description
1999 Lincoln Cent With Cupped
Obverse Die Cap, MS66 Red
1999 1C Lincoln Cent--Obverse Die Cap--MS66 Red NGC. This
cent was first struck between the obverse die and the obverse of a
previously struck cent (not included). This cent then adhered to
the obverse die and was struck additional times, wrapping partly
around the obverse die. The reverse shows a reversed, incused, and
spread image of the obverse, the design from the first impression
flattened by subsequent strikes against a series of freshly fed
flans. The die cap, with its thick, cupped rim, barely fits within
the NGC holder, and the sealing process has caused a trace of the
holder plastic to melt around small portions of the coin.
