Description
Double Struck Statehood Quarter Die Cap
Undated (1999-P) 25C Statehood Quarter--Die Cap, Double Struck--MS65 ANACS. Neither side of this error displays a date, but ANACS has listed it as a 1999-P on the insert. The planchet was fed into the press, where it became attached to the obverse die as a cap. The reverse never came into contact with the reverse die, so we do not know which Statehood Quarter this coin was supposed to be. Instead, the reverse was struck into the obverse of a previously struck coin, and there is a full brockage on that side. After detaching from the obverse die, this planchet did not fully eject, and the obverse received a second, off center impression at approximately 5 o'clock. The reverse was struck into a blank planchet, with the result that the brockage has become distended in the area of the second strike. The ANACS holder has cracked directly over the reverse of the coin.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 249D, PCGS# 5944, GSID# 5772)
