Description
Intriguing Error 1999 Lincoln Cent Mated Pair
Mint State Mated Pair: 1999 1C Cent, First Coin--Obverse Cap, Double Struck--Uncertified, Second Coin--Indent--Uncertified. Both are uncertified because they will not fit into certification holders. The first coin became an obverse cap, and it struck several other planchets with the result that the reverse impression is distended. After an unknown number of strikes, the cap fell off, the upper right side landing on another planchet that had been fed into the press. The final impression drove the upper right side of the obverse cap into the new planchet, creating an indent in the latter coin. The second impression on the obverse cap is 10 percent off center at 4 o'clock and rotated 180 degrees; a faint partial brockage can be seen in the indented area of the second coin.
