Description
Mated Pair 1999-P Roosevelt Dimes With Multiple Errors
Mint State Mated Pair: 1999-P 10C Dime, First Coin--Stretch Strike, Strike-Through--Uncertified, Second Coin--Clipped Planchet, Saddle Strike, Indent, Strike-Through--Uncertified. Both coins are uncertified because they will not fit into certification holders. This is a challenging error to catalog, and it should provide hours of study for the winning bidder. Actually, there appears to have been three planchets involved in this error, although only two of them are readily discernible. The original planchet (now virtually obliterated) remained in the press overlying part of the reverse die. The two coins that we are offering here were then fed into the press on top of this planchet. Both planchets overlapped at the time of striking, the flan of the full planchet twisting up around the hammer die. Although the chain strike is virtually complete on the obverse, part of the second coin, which was a clipped planchet, folded under the first coin with the result that an indent is visible. Since the third planchet (now missing) was still in the press, the reverse of this chain strike displays a strike-through with only some of the devices being visible. Remnants of the third planchet were struck into the reverse of the first coin. Finally, the tail end of the clipped planchet caught the dies when it was not fully ejected, then flipped over, with 95 percent off center strike visible of the reverse. (2 pieces)Auction Info
