Description
Curious 1999-P Georgia Quarter, Partial Collar and Indent Errors
Mint State Mated Pair: 1999-P 25C Georgia Statehood Quarter, First Coin--Partial Collar, Indent--Uncertified, Second Coin--Stretch Strike, Indent--Uncertified. Both are uncertified because they will not fit into certification holders. We are not completely sure how this mated pair error was formed. We believe that both planchets were fed into the press simultaneously, the second one only partially. The collar did not fully deploy, with the result that the first coin displays reeding around only the reverse. The hammer die struck about 30 percent of the second planchet into the first planchet, leaving an elliptical indent on the right side. The mintmark is on the struck portion of the second coin, the date is fully defined on the reverse of the first example. This is possibly the only known Georgia Statehood Quarter mated pair error.
