    Description

Rare and Desirable 1944 Steel Cent

1944 Cent--Struck on a Steel Planchet--AU 50 ANACS. A rare off-metal striking of a cent struck from a leftover planchet from 1943. The 1944-D steel cent we offered in last year's ANA Sale realized $7,700. The magnetic surfaces of this piece retain a fair amount of luster and show variegated light to medium gray coloration over both sides. A bit softly struck at the top of Lincoln's head and also at the upper left of the O in ONE. One of the most sought-after errors in U.S. numismatics.
