Dramatic Obverse Die Cap Canadian Cent

Undated (1953 to 1964) With Strap Canadian Cent--Cupped Brockage Obverse and Large Broadstrike--MS64 PCGS. KM-49. A Cent (not this piece) was normally struck but failed to eject from the dies. A newly fed planchet (which became this coin) was struck against the previously struck Cent (not included), which jammed the present piece onto the obverse die, and created a brockage portrait of the young queen on the reverse that expanded and blurred as the piece was subsequently struck against an unknown number of newly fed planchets. The Cent has a cupped appearance, since the edges wrapped around the obverse die. Toned in deep navy-blue, sea-green, and orange-red colors. A faint fingerprint is noted beneath the chin.
