Description
Reverse Fragment Buffalo Nickel, MS63
Seldom Seen Lamination Error
Undated 5C Philadelphia Mint Type Two Buffalo Nickel--Reverse
Lamination Fragment--MS63 NGC. This wafer-thin reverse fragment
separated from the remainder of the coin after the strike, from a
lamination caused by an alloy impurity or other flaw within the
planchet prior to the strike. The fragment displays the
denomination and the rim between 4 o'clock and 6:30, as well as
most of the bison's head and flank. All four legs are complete. The
"obverse" of the coin shows an incused and reversed impression of
the reverse, along with the granular texture of the inner planchet.
