Multiple Mint Errors on a PR62
    Kennedy Half Dollar

Undated Proof Kennedy Half Dollar -- Struck on a Quarter Blank with Straight Clip, Obverse Indent, Reverse Brockage -- PR62 NGC. 5.16 gm. This combination of errors on a proof coin is so unusual that we wonder whether it had "help" in its production and escape from the Mint. This piece began its blundered existence as a clad quarter blank with a straight clip (error #1), caused when a blanking punch overlaps a side of coinage strip. The blank failed to pass through the upset mill (error #2) but did make it between proof half dollar dies (error #3) where the obverse was about 50% indented (error #4) by a different planchet. The reverse was struck against the obverse (error #5) of a previously struck coin, which was probably a reverse die cap, given the distorted and spread image on the reverse of the present coin.
