Description

1787 N. 11-B Fugio Cent, MS64+ Red and Brown
From the Bank of New York Hoard

1787 1C Fugio Cent, UNITED STATES, 4 Cinquefoils, N. 11-B, W-6785, R.4, MS64+ Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. The Bank of New York Hoard that Eric P. Newman inventoried in 1948 included 1,641 Fugio Cents. However, just 60 examples were from the Newman 11-B dies and few of those retained any red mint color. Aside from the frequently encountered New Haven Restrikes, Fugio cents are rarely encountered with original red. PCGS has never certified a Fugio cent as Red, and relatively few as Red and Brown. The present Choice Mint State piece is virtually full red with a few splashes of steel toning. It is an exceptional example with better aesthetics than any others we have handled. Population: 14 in 64 (1 in 64+) Red and Brown, 4 finer. CAC: 6 in 64, 1 finer (1/25).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B8F, PCGS# 890, Greysheet# 190)
