Description

1787 Fugio Cent, MS66 Red and Brown
Glossy Surfaces With Much Remaining Red
Newman 11-B, Ex: Boyd, Ford

1787 1C Fugio Cent, UNITED STATES, Four Cinquefoils MS66 Red and Brown NGC. Newman 11-B, R.4. 160.6 grains, according to the Ford catalog. Substantial mint red color illuminates this boldly struck and splendidly preserved Gem, with even more original color on the reverse than the obverse. The A in ARE is recut over an O, a minor engraver's blunder. Traces of carbon are of little concern. Struck from heavily clashed dies with distinct impressions of the obverse design on the reverse and vice versa. Listed on page 83 of the 2012 Guide Book.
Ex: F.C.C. Boyd, John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, (Stack's, 10/2003), lot 266.
