Scarce Cross After Date Variety
UNITED STATES, N. 1-B
1787 1C Fugio Cent, UNITED STATES, No Cinquefoils XF45 PCGS. N.
1-B, W-6600, R.4. Ex: Rob Retz Family Collection. The
distinctive obverse die, with a cross after the date instead of
four cinquefoils, previously struck the non-collectible N. 1-CC
pattern. Likely, the obverse die then became part of the regular
inventory, and in due course was paired with a generic UNITED
STATES reverse to create the present scarce variety. An unabraded
walnut-brown example with pleasing detail, a minor reverse flan
flaw at 7 o'clock, and a slight reverse rim ding at 4 o'clock. The
reverse die is misaligned toward 1 o'clock. Listed on page 87 of
