1787 Club Rays Fugio Cent, MS62 Brown
Newman 3-D, Rounded Ends
Sole Certified Uncirculated Example

1787 FUGIO Fugio Cent, Club Rays, Rounded Ends, UNITED STATES, N. 3-D, W-6680, R.3, MS62 Brown NGC. Mint State examples of the Fugio cents with pointed rays are relatively available from the Bank of New York hoard. However, examples with club rays are extremely rare in Mint State grades. In fact, this example with rounded ends and one other similarly graded example with concave ends are the only two NGC certified Mint State pieces, and both carry the same MS62 Brown assessment (6/25). PCGS has never certified a Mint State submission. This delightful walnut-brown example displays satin luster and a mark-free appearance. Unimportant planchet granularity is limited to the reverse periphery. Although Newman 3-D is best known for its club rays obverse, the reverse is also distinctive, since the upper rings display broad repunching and die lapping has removed portions of the label surrounding WE ARE ONE. Listed on page 53 of the 2026 Guide Book.
