Description

1857 Flying Eagle Cent, MS65
Only 13 Finer PCGS Specimens

1857 1C MS65 PCGS. CAC. Following a varied production of Flying Eagle cents dated 1856 -- which are are technically patterns, even though they are often collected with the regular-issue series -- production began in earnest in 1857 with a mintage that exceeded 17 million coins. Few of those survive as fine as this Gem, with its frosty tan luster and bold design elements. Only a few minuscule marks and tiny spots are evident on each side, preventing a higher grade. PCGS has certified 13 finer pieces (10/11).(Registry values: N2998)
