Description

1857 Flying Eagle Cent, MS65
Boldly Struck Type Coin

1857 1C MS65 PCGS. In response to the rising cost of copper, the Act of February 21, 1857, called for the coinage of the new copper-nickel small cent. The resulting small cent required less than half the amount of copper used to mint the Large cent, producing drastic savings for the U.S. Treasury. This Gem Uncirculated cent features fully struck design elements that are unusually bold on the eagle's tailfeathers and the reverse wreath. The vibrant mint luster enhances minimally abraded copper-gold surfaces.(Registry values: N2998)
