Description

1858 Flying Eagle Cent, MS66+
Only One Finer Coin at PCGS

1858 1C Large Letters, High Leaves MS66+ PCGS. CAC. High Leaves Reverse, Closed E in ONE. The High Leaves Reverse was used early in the year and follows the style used in 1856 and 1857. The elements were in fairly high relief, which probably caused striking problems and reduced die life, prompting the change to the lower relief Low Leaves design later in the year. The Closed E coins used the denomination punches from 1857.

This high-end Premium Gem exhibits pinpoint detail on all design elements and the original red surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster on both sides. A die crack shows on the obverse from the rim at 5 o'clock to the eagle's tail. Population: 28 in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer (1/15).(Registry values: N4719)
